A classic choice for those wanting to create a sense of tranquility, green ranges from deep and dramatic to bright and uplifting. Inherent to the great outdoors, its wide variation of nuanced tones can also find a place within any colour palette – from warming reds and pinks, to neutrals and calming blues. Lichen: A New Classic
Adaptable and easy to use, muted greens paired with neutrals are a sophisticated option for creating calming interiors. Lichen is a soft, refined tone intentionally created as an almost grey shade of green first featured in designs Avon Lichen and Isis Reed. Developed to be used as a ‘neutral’ green, Lichen is rooted in nature and a colour we often revisit in our flatweave designs.
In an elegant Victorian project in leafy Kew, architects Hamilton King selected Sudbury Lichen for their clients; a family with three children wanting to create a modern ‘forever home’. Integral to the brief was the goal to remain honest to the original features of the property yet maximise the feeling of space and light within the core of the home.
Chosen for its tonal palette that worked perfectly alongside the oak flooring, panelling and modern spindles, Sudbury Lichen sits beautifully within the space, its soft green and olive stripes gently complemented by their surroundings. Hamilton King say they wanted the continuous oak handrail to be the tie to classical features of the property, whilst the simplistic steel spindles added a contemporary and lightweight appearance that allowed natural light to pass through. Paired with these considered design details, Sudbury Lichen became a “fundamental part of the staircase”, blending in amongst both the Victorian features and modern detailing within this beautifully thought out contemporary space.
Selected from our New Classics collection, Sudbury Lichen is inspired by the British countryside, using 100% British wool sourced in partnership with the Woolkeepers.
The design of Sudbury Lichen is such that it reflects the contemporary design of the spindles yet brings colour detailing into the stairwell

Dramatic Greens
A luxurious and opulent tone, a dramatic green covers a wide spectrum of hues, ranging from deep teals, dark buttery olives to vibrant jewel tones. Seeing a surge in popularity from cabinetry to cloakrooms, a strong green creates spaces that are visually impactful and often unforgettable.
Working beautifully when paired with organic textures and a paired-back palette, our Hand Tufted Rug collections are a great place to start when looking to introduce this tone into the home. With soft, luxurious textures and rich colour, a bespoke hand tufted rug in deep greens displays a renewed texture and intensity to our yarn, perfect for introducing drama and opulence to a space.
For hallways, grass and jewel-toned greens transform staircases from overlooked, practical spaces to a striking focal point that carries colour and energy throughout the home. For impact, Masai Emerald, Vernon Teal and Morella Emerald are designs that all deliver vivid greens combined with complex multi-striped patterns. If bold colour paired with a classic composition is required, Swanson Juniper and New Hadley Lime both feature strong single tones inherent to the design, working beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Softening Spaces
Green can be an extremely cocooning colour. Embracing the softer range of blue-tinged greens and earthier tones creates incredibly soothing and restorative environments. If a feeling of tranquility is desired when stepping into the home, a muted green stair runner can transform a hallway into an oasis of calm. Paired with a palette of off-whites and organic textures, designs like Swanson Celadon, Cranborne Lichen and Trent Elm are timeless options for hallways.
Four rugs that will soften a space:
Templeton – a labyrinth of tessellating pattern, in contrasting textures of tight loop pile and raised cut pile of soothing mid-green tones. A design that plays with pattern and nuanced tactility.
Westport Lichen – featuring a neutral ground of herringbone grey-green stripes, Westport Lichen makes an eye-catching rug with its spring green border multiplying to create bold repeating stripes.
Rhodes – with a softly textured background, various pile heights elevate the contrasting geometric low pile border. A great option for pulling a scheme together with subtle colour and pattern.
Dartmouth Green – olive and forest green meet cool modern neutrals in Dartmouth. When joined together, its evenly proportioned rib and herringbone pattern creates an eye-catching striped pattern rug.
Other elements to consider.
When looking at ways to introduce green to a space other than flooring, there are a number of fun and creative options to consider.
Paint – using green on walls to contrast and complement unexpected tones creates unique and unforgettable spaces. Painting a staircase and woodwork can help lift both subtle and bold designs, creating a layering of texture and colour. There are no wrong colours to use alongside green, from pink and red to yellow and blue, every home has a space for green.
Planting – ranging from subtle to dramatic, planting is an easy way to bring the outside in. Natural greenery used in hallways and living rooms works beautifully alongside rugs and runners from all corners of the colour spectrum. A touch of green foliage adds another layer of texture and pattern, and is an simple finishing touch to echo existing design details.
