Conscious design, made to last.
For more than just the season
At this time of year, while we’re being encouraged from every direction to increasingly buy more. At Roger Oates, we want to urge people to slow down and consider more conscious buying habits. Rather than buying more every year, invest in the pieces that will last for generations to come.
We all know that over-consumption is having a huge, detrimental impact on our planet so if you are buying presents this Christmas, seek out those quality, handcrafted gifts that will last a lifetime and in turn, help us all create a better world around us. As the age old saying goes, ‘it is quality over quantity that matters’, and this year those words feel more important than ever. Why not demand more from the products and brands you are buying from? This Christmas, gravitate to the brands that align with your own values and make conscious decisions with the purchases you make.
Design, Quality & Craftsmanship
At Roger Oates Design, our work is rooted in the belief that interiors should evolve gently alongside us, with each piece a testament to our considered and timeless approach to design. Through the creation of every idea, we follow the notion of ‘good design’ – considering every element, from our material integrity and craftspeople to the impact on our environment and our creative process.
Since 2023, we have reshaped our relationship with wool, working towards our goal of using solely 100% British wool across our entire production. We believe that sustainable design is durable design, and with our team of experienced craftspeople involved at every step of our process, we can continually ensure that the best quality and highest standards are woven into every roll of flatweave and shapes each hand tufted rug.
Whether you already own one of our rugs or runners, or are looking to purchase your first piece, take time to read our ‘Care and Cleaning Guidance’ on our website for ways to ensure a prolonged life and keep your rugs looking their best for many years to come.
British Materials
We use 100% British wool sourced through the Woolkeepers – a forward-thinking initiative who provide support to British sheep farmers through an environmentally conscious framework. This allows us to trace the wool we use back to the farms where the sheep are raised. The aim of the Woolkeepers is to build a thriving wool supply ecosystem which benefits everyone in the wool supply chain, from the custodians of the soil to those who care for the fibre, resulting in fairer wool prices for farmers.
The ethos and standards of Woolkeepers ensures the highest quality of the wool due to a genuine commitment to the welfare of both farmer and sheep. The long-term social goal behind the initiative is to support a campaign which nurtures land transformation and uses wool to reverse climate change.

Timeless Interiors
Investing in timeless pieces that blend effortlessly within your home, rather than just the season, is a simple mantra for those seeking personal, enduring interiors that mature throughout the year. Our designs do not follow trends but instead draw influence from decades of archives, traditional weaving methods and iconic patterns that stand the test of time. With this stand-alone approach, our rugs and runners are not just an investment in design, but also in versatility.
A colourful flatweave runner or hand tufted rug offers year-round versatility and can easily be moved from room to room, a thoughtful solution for spaces that shift in usage throughout the year. There are lots of different ways to style your new and existing rugs within your home – from unexpected colour pairings to accessorising with benches and cushions. Why not try switching it up and give your space a refresh in time for the festive season.
Winter styling
With the crossover into the festive period well underway, December sees our homes transform into spaces filled with joy and celebration. In preparation for the chillier months, introducing warmth and texture through flooring is a subtle yet effective way to prepare our interiors for the season. A striped hallway runner or luxurious hand tufted rug can reshape how we feel and move through a space, adding a sense of softness and quiet luxury underfoot.
During these months we find that areas of our homes like our entryways and hallways, spaces we often overlook throughout the rest of the year, seem to command our attention. Whether welcoming guests into your home or just brushing off the chill of the winter air, the arrival of the festive period brings a fleeting, yet meaningful transformation within these spaces. Why not try adding an upholstered bench to add a sense of intentionality and interest – not only a convenient spot to perch and layer up, choosing a bench with a beautiful woven pattern can help brighten these areas that are often difficult to decorate.

Seasonal Colours
The seasonal palette is no longer confined to traditional reds and greens. Today Christmas colour stories are more personal and interpretive, with a kaleidoscope of colours finding their way onto, and under, the tree. Warmth is shaped not only by colour, but the tactile richness of wool, the intricacy of a weave and a quiet elegance of materiality.
For those seeking a subtle change to tradition, bronzed hues like orange and terracotta placed alongside warm blues create rooms that feel contemporary, yet play with layers of nuanced colour. Alternatively, dining rooms featuring soft neutrals and natural textures can offer a more understated festive scheme, while deep heritage-inspired stripes like Chelsea Ember and Charleston Turkey Red can bring a subtle sense of occasion and tradition to a hallway without feeling obviously seasonal.
So, if you must shop for a gift this Christmas, seek out a present that speaks of true quality and craftsmanship – created with care, time, and thoughtful selection of materials. These are the gifts designed to endure, and in turn, help us all benefit from an improved planet.
