Design Focus | Mila

Mila is one of four bold new designs that forms our latest collection, A Journey in Colour. This exciting collaboration unites A Rum Fellow’s knowledge of dynamic pattern and vivid tones with our signature stripes, complex palette and heritage weaving techniques. Perfectly showcasing both collaborators within a single design, Mila takes influence from A Rum Fellow’s Ipala Stripe fabric with the footprint originating from our classic ‘Croft’ and ‘Cheltenham’ designs – creating a complex balance of tonal hues and muted colour within a woven rib structure.

With its understated border, Mila cleverly combines multiple tones of the same colour to create a nuanced and highly textured design. A subtle border is created where the density of this colour falls and builds at the edge, bringing a quiet definition to the design. There are no ‘so called’ neutral designs in A Journey of Colour, however the subtle tonal palette of Mila displays an overall aesthetic which is striking yet quietly calming. Carefully balanced with a muted palette, Mila is ideal for creating an uplifting and understated energy.

Available in four carefully curated colourways, each one reveals the intricate web of complex colour that goes into each one.

Mila Gold

Mila Gold seen here in the London home of A Rum Fellow founders Caroline & Dylan, combines interlaced tones of yellow, sand and rich ochre to create a warm overall colour. They have created an uplifting and bright entrance hall by pairing it with Craig and Rose ‘Jarosite’ – a glowing, rich yellow that creates a tonal, fun space that certainly makes a statement. If you want to build up and layer colour slowly, then our Mila Gold cushion is the perfect place to start.

Mila Terracotta

Warm, earthy tones and antique pinks are placed alongside cool neutrals to make this understated colourway, suiting a multitude of settings. In this calming and inviting sitting room, our Mila Terracotta rug finds its place amongst a statement marble fireplace. Exposed rustic brickwork and contemporary leather warms up the scheme alongside the comforting tones of Paint and Paper Library’s ‘Stone IV’ on the walls.

‘The tonal palette of Mila is ideal for injecting subtle colour and pattern into schemes – the soft colour is uplifting without overpowering its surroundings.’

Mila Citrine

Maybe the softest colours seen in Mila are in Citrine; a palette of delicate spring greens and catkin tempered by neutral hues. To create a calming scheme pair with natural wood and calming paint colours like Little Greene’s popular Slaked Lime, or choose a patterned wallpaper for a bold, statement making entrance.

Mila Indigo

A fresh, classic colourway which looks just as striking as a modern upholster bench as it does a stair runner. From coastal to heritage homes, Mila Indigo has a cool and complex range of blue and grey tones with a strong, almost solid border. Here we see multiple widths that have been joined by hand to create a bold rug, perfectly placed in this effortlessly laidback townhouse.
