Winter Gift Guide
If you find yourself leaning towards the predictable when buying for loved ones; here we look to our...
Each new rug has its own story to tell – showcasing how colour can shift form, feeling, and mood and with an extended palette, the possibilities are now more adventurous and expressive than ever. Following the format of our renowned flatweave collections, each design comes with a range of exciting colourways, curated by our skilled designers. These colourways give you the scope to select colours that fit your space, and with each palette carefully considered by our design team, you are bound to uncover unique and unexpected combinations that surpass your own imagination.
Whether drawn to bold contrasts or gentle tonal pairings, each design can be transformed through the various colourways, reworking designs from statement rugs to more neutral backdrops in accordance with your personal vision.
When developing our range of hand tufted rugs, it not only changed our relationship with wool, but also with the way we work with colour. In contrast to our flatweave, where the yarn lays ‘flat’ on its side, the cut ends of the pile in our hand tufted rugs reveal a depth of colour, bringing new life and intensity to our heritage palette.
By playing with pile height and texture throughout this collection, even the most neutral of colourways can maintain the intricacies of the design and make an impact within a space. This is demonstrated beautifully in our Templeton rug; a labyrinth of tessellating pattern in contrasting textures of tight loop pile and raised cut pile. This design works beautifully in bright, vibrant colourways as well as neutral, tonal combinations.
Each rug in the Linear collection uses a finely spun yarn that, when tufted into a rug allows every colour to truly shine, reflecting light and resulting in a soft, silky sheen.
Exploring the complexities of scale and weight amongst stripes and blocks, Linear leans into the familiar, with hints of flatweave design favourites coded throughout the collection. The Mawgan rug is no exception to this, showcasing a refined and sophisticated stripe pattern in a cut and loop pile. Using understated colours, the stripes in each block are combined in differing proportions to create shading effects.
“Mawgan was the catalyst for a return to linear stripes, a design which draws inspiration from the serene horizon line at Mawgan Porth beach on the North Coast of Cornwall.”
In its original colour palette, designs such as Mawgan can feel soft, calming and tranquil, however can transform into a dramatic stand-out piece through a simple switch of colours. The thin vertical stripe running through the middle of this design presents the perfect opportunity for a touch of vibrant, unexpected colour and the original colourway truly makes the most of this, cutting through the stripes with the delicate band of contrasting, bright red.
Sometimes, when creating a cohesive scheme, it is easiest to take inspiration from a specific artwork or furniture piece and work outwards from there, designing your room to reflect and compliment the colours within. Our rugs are no different, offering a starting point for your interiors to draw from the palettes or specific shades found in the designs.
Designs like our Penrose rug offer a plethora of amazing colours to pull from, with more shades revealing themselves as you get closer to the design. The horizontal stripes in this rug collide in an amazing merging of two spectrums, with the contrasting yet complimentary tones running alongside each other in narrow lines – creating the illusion of a new, blended shade in the middle.
For cohesion throughout multiple rooms, why not try placing repeated designs in different, curated colourways that match each room. This creates continuity while still maintaining separate ‘zones’.
In more contemporary spaces, the defined lines of Penrose or Mawgan work well but if you’re wanting a slightly modernised take on a more traditional design, look to rugs such as Farway. The arrangement of tonal bands throughout this design feels reminiscent of the overlapping or woven stripes that are inherent to plaid and tartan cloth, maintaining the more traditional appearance. The corresponding colourways are in tune with this more classic design and mirror the heritage palette used in many of our most loved flatweaves.
As with any tactile product, it is often difficult to get a true sense of colour and textural elements through the screen. Because of this, we always recommend visiting our team at our London Studio or Ledbury Showroom to explore our samples and see full-scale designs in person.
While the suggested colourways within this collection present inspiration for each design, with over 250 colours within the Roger Oates palette, no colour is set in stone. Alternatively, if you are requiring a specific shade – whether matching existing paintwork or replicating the vibrant shades from your latest travel adventure, then our colour matching service may be the best option for you.
