Our love for Ledbury

Ledbury Church Lane

Here at Roger Oates Design we are proud of our Herefordshire heritage. Having settled into the gentle slopes of the Malvern Hills nearly 30 years ago, we are inspired by our surroundings and the market town of Ledbury that can be found just a stone’s-throw away.

Part of the Eastnor Estate, you’ll find our head office, workshop and showroom. Located within Somers Arms Farmhouse and the Long Barn, we are surrounded by tranquil gardens, fruit orchards and rolling Herefordshire countryside. So it is about time that we write about why we love where we work, and why a visit to Ledbury should be on everyone’s list.

Just a few minutes drive away and you’ll find yourself in the centre of this historic market town. With its famous black and white houses, quaint streets and thriving independant shops, this buzzing town has everything you could need.

If you’re on the lookout for beautifully curated ceramics, fabrics and other artisanal treasures then head to Tinsmiths, now on the bustling high street with their stunning shop front. For lunch wander up the picturesque Church Lane where you will find The Malthouse Café & Gallery tucked behind its tranquil walled courtyard, with homemade offerings made using locally-sourced produce. It was on this picturesque Ledbury street that Roger Oates Design first put down roots in the town, before moving to Eastnor.

Step back in time and visit Martin Clark of Tilley Letterpress Printing, whose traditional print-house sits on the same site as when they were founded back in 1875. Here you can see the Master Printer at work in this incredible space, where he operates his letterpress with great skill and craftsmanship. A quick walk from Tilley’s through the alleyways and you will discover The Design Quarter, housing the stylish Hus and Hem – the perfect place to shop a number of Scandi homeware delights.

Ledbury has many dining spots, but if you are looking for an intimate candlelit dining experience then 33 The Homend is a must. Set in a beautiful 18th Century Grade 2 listed building in the heart of Ledbury, it boasts a small, but seasonal menu and is the perfect place to enjoy an evening in Ledbury – but be sure to book well in advance! On your way home why not take a detour and make a toast to the town with a visit to Hay Wines, whose excellent selection of wines and spirits from across the globe means there is something for everyone.

The market town of Ledbury and its surrounding area has a wealth of artisan makers, historic buildings, stunning gardens and working farms that grow some of the best produce around. Our love of Ledbury grows with each trip into this little market town, and we definitely think it’s worth a visit again soon.

While we love writing about Ledbury, we could not fit everything in! Here are some other places worth a visit when coming to see us.
