Multi-functional and adaptable design is high on our list of priorities here at Roger Oates Design. In today’s current climate and increased time spent in our homes, we are all looking to find creative and unique additions to our interiors that make us smile. Enter our stylish collection of handmade benches found on our online store, upholstered in a range of our favourite 100% wool Venetian flatweaves, meaning there is a design for every interior setting.

We have often said our flatweave is upholstery for the stairs, therefore it seemed only natural to use it in new ways. After experimenting with upholstered furniture in the early 2000’s using our original conventional fabric range, we knew we wanted to offer a timeless and functional piece, using our less-conventional flatweave as the material.

We turned to a skilled upholsterer close to our studios in Herefordshire to create our benches, where they are made in small batches, often to order. Staying true to the Roger Oates ethos of using honest quality materials, each bench is finished with handcrafted oak legs.

As part of a collaboration with textile designer and weaver Heather Shields, we have a limited collection of benches upholstered in a Masai-inspired fine wool cloth. An intricate marriage of maritime blues, subtle pinks and neutrals. This exclusive cloth woven on the Isle of Bute, uses a traditional double cloth technique for a soft, luxurious finish.

Our benches also work particularly well to punctuate a scheme with colour and texture. From the classic and subtle design of the Fulham Lichen Bench with its soft earthy tones that would sit perfectly at the end of any bed, to the energising contrasting stripes of the Fitzroy Bright – bold enough to take centre-stage as a window seat or to stack your coffee table books on. Homes need to work around our busy lives yet reflect our personalities – and textiles are the perfect way to do this. Adding them to our interiors through adaptable, durable and inventive ways is why we created this eye-catching range for our Lifestyle Store.

Offering functionality and style, and available in three sizes, the benches lend themselves to many settings – in entrance halls as a place to pause and take off shoes or as a feature to add focus on landings.
