The Tiger and Turtle

At first glance this looks like any other roller coaster. On close inspection the track is entirely formed of steps.  This 250ft staircase was constructed outside the town of Duisberg, Germany in 2011.  The creation of artist’s Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth, it uses zinc and steel left over from local mining operations.  Visitors take in the views of the surrounding countryside of the Rhine Valley, whilst walking at the speed of a turtle on a structure that represents the speed of a tiger.

The whole structure is lined with LED lights , allowing for night-time walking, and illuminating the hilltop structure in a soft white glow that can be seen for miles around.
