We were so pleased when approached by the production designers of the 2025 Bridget Jones film, who were looking for some colourful woven stripes to adorn the stairs in the home of Bridget Jones herself.
The colourful and characterful design that was chosen was Morella Atoll, a border design with charm, energy and a tad of eccentricity, to complement the style of the films main protagonist. This design was part of our A Journey in Colour collection, designed in collaboration with A Rum Fellow, which celebrates bold colour and dynamic pattern through each design.
The colours in Morella Atoll are evocative of tropical waters and deep sea coral. Punctuated by vibrant turquoise dots, azure and teal central stripes sit between an eye-catching salmon pink border.
Production Designer Kave Quinn offered an insight into the home of Bridget Jones in a behind-the-scenes tour with Architectural Digest. Kave explains the design decisions that helped bring life to the fictional home of a character the world has come to know so well.
The set was purpose built to mimic a ‘lived-in’ character property and the designers used real materials like marble work surfaces, reclaimed wooden floorboards and layered and chipped paint to give authenticity to the space. The interior design themes wonderfully reflect both Bridget and Mark’s characters and sensibilities, offering a juxtaposition of traditional and fun elements. Bridget’s style is seen throughout, in bright yellow walls, green glazed tiles, fun painted motifs and whimsical stained glass. Marks influence can been found in well designed chairs, and traditional art work.
The interior design of the entire set are a brilliant lesson in how filling your home with things that you like ultimately creates a cohesive scheme that perfectly reflects the style of the owners – a mish-mash of styles that work together to create a warm familial space.
Renee Zellweger who plays Bridget says of the home the designers created – ”it’s vibrant and alive and it’s a fun place to be”, remarking that the production team managed to “make her world a magical place that we like to revisit”.
These sentiments make us beg the question, what truly makes our homes feel like home? And can a more relaxed and free spirited design scheme be the key to creating spaces that not only look beautiful but function for our families?
Details like the bespoke hand-painted bed that features in the children’s bedroom remind us of the importance of making a space your own.
