Our design process is something we treasure – a perpetual practice, with hand-loom weaving, digital drawing and mood boarding happening each day.
With inspiration in abundance, our studios walls are adorned with experiments in colour, sketches and reference work, with our rich archives providing a trove of both seminal designs as well as ideas to revisit.
Collaborations
We love to work alongside other creatives to infuse our signature Roger Oates style with the influence of other innovative designers. The synergy of a collective process inspires our creativity and brings forth original and distinctive works. We work with designers who share our ethos and values, honouring fine craftsmanship, material provenance and UK production.

A Journey In Colour, taken together with London designers A Rum Fellow. Exploring a fantasy of travel through colour escapism with a focus on structure and composition, the culmination of a two year adventure uniting two design studios.

Granite + Smoke
Two vibrant and dynamic hand tufted rugs by Granite + Smoke made in collaboration with Roger Oates Design. Intricate compositions by the Granite + Smoke team create striking, optical effects using the hand tufted medium whilst celebrating the Roger Oates Design colour palette. The two designs have boundless energy and movement, based on simple repeating shapes in carefully selected gradient colours and 3D texture.

Heather Shields
A collaboration with weaver Heather Shields sees a fine 100% wool cloth turned into blankets, cushions, throws, and upholstered onto benches. Woven in a traditional weaving mill on the Scottish Borders, designs Kirn and Larkfield offer a stylish range of home accessories.
