Iconic designs of the 1960’s
Richard Allan’s archive is rich with bold graphics reminiscent of the era. As an innovative British scarf designer, Allan helped shape the visual language of the time, introducing cutting-edge designs that captured the vibrancy of the Sixties through pattern and colour.
Often described as ‘wearable art’, his scarf designs remain as timeless today as when they were first created. A curated selection of three archive designs has been reimagined into hand tufted rugs – art for the floor – to be celebrated and cherished in the home.
The heritage British brand, now led by his daughter, Cate Allan, continues to reinvent these archive designs, with a commitment to using the best possible materials, and British production, whilst honouring the creativity and heritage of the brand.
This small, curated hand‑tufted project unites Roger Oates Designs Creative Director Andy Guard with Cate Allan of Richard Allan London, reinterpreting the iconic designs from the Richard Allan archives for modern interiors.

Behind the Design
The three rug designs highlight the diverse Richard Allan archive, from strong geometric pattern to repetitive organic forms. Originally hand-drawn or painted and scaled for screen-printing these artworks have been thoughtfully translated by the Roger Oates design team into tufted form, preserving the vibrancy and spirit of the originals.
Made from 100% British wool and crafted using a blend of modern technology and traditional techniques, each rug offers a lasting and iconic addition to the home.
