Roger Oates + Solidwool
A study in material transformation using waste wool fibres.
Combining heritage with innovation
Roger Oates Design became the new custodian of Solidwool, in 2021. With a shared respect for wool and a commitment to mindful design, our two companies came together with ease. So, it seemed an obvious step to create a physical product with a focus on using surplus waste wool.
In a plan to minimise and utilise our waste material we worked with the Solidwool team to create a unique product.
Our waste wool fibres combined with natural Welsh Mountain fleece, and bio resin are used to create the Solidwool Full Circle recycled composite. Each tabletop has its own unique, organic markings, encapsulating the story of the materials within.
Full Circle
The Full Circle – recycled Hembury Side Table surface is rich with deep reds browns and natural wool tones creating a marbled effect that is both raw and refined. This workshop collaboration is a limited-edition series of 100 Hembury Side Tables and is a true statement of British materials and craftsmanship.

Behind the Design
Each day, new sewing projects are undertaken at our Herefordshire workshop, involving different designs in any number of colours. Our workshop tables are scattered with multicoloured yarn and offcuts, these beautiful odds and ends of yarn are our ‘waste’.
The surplus yarn is gathered, sorted, and processed, creating a completely unique blend of colours. The waste wool fibres combined with natural Welsh Mountain fleece are combined to create a new Solidwool composite.
